The Daily Non-Pareil - Schultz wants a fight with proposing gun ban removal

Courthouse security has been a regular topic of debate in Pottawattamie County for the last two decades.

Concerns about armed visitors, prisoners snatching weapons, angry parents whose children have been removed and emotional couples and families struggling with anger all have been sighted as risks to public safety in the courthouse.

This was precisely the reason the current safety system and weapons ban in the courthouse were enacted. These measures came at a hefty expense and with the full support of the county supervisors, judges and staff and the sheriff who is responsible for courthouse security.

Justin Schultz is clearly itching to be in a gun fight, and his statement to the Nonpareil was completely irresponsible and self-serving. His desire to remove the ban and the wishy-washy position from Tom Hanafan are not the kind of leadership we need on the Board of Supervisors.
